The old North Eastern Railway used hopper wagons to transport coal from collieries to coastal loading staithes for shipment abroad or to power stations throughout the UK. They were also used in domestic coal traffic and many station yards had overhead coal drops where hoppers could be unloaded by gravity
These wagons were used side by side with the Dia. 72 version. The basic design dated back to the turn of the century but they were still being built in BR days. The kit covers LNER-built 266100-267099, 286689-287588, 298515-30001 plus BR B400200-B400499 and again consists mainly of all white-metal castings with operating bottom doors. The kit requires wheels, paint and transfers to complete
