A total of 165 of this class was built from 1906 onwards for use on heavy freight and mineral workings on North Eastern lines. The J27s lasted until the very end of Tyneside steam and were much mourned by footplate crews when they were finally replaced by diesels. The Piercy kit features a turned brass boiler, opening smokebox door with interior detail and tube plate, super-detailed whitemetal cab and footplate with lost-wax fittings, full inside dummy motion with all valve gear and crank axle, milled chassis and coupling rods, compensated tender chassis. The kit includes additional parts to cover most of the variants and requires only wheels, motor/gearbox, paint and transfers to complete.
