E222 - S.A.R GMA/M Garratt 4-8-2+2-8-4 HOm
Supplied by makers Beyer Peacock, North British and Henschel in 1954 at an original price of £95,673 the GMA/M’s became legendary to steam enthusiasts the world over. These Locomotives were a modern successor to the GM class with a 150 of them been delivered between 1954-56. The orders were split between Beyer Peacock, the North British Locomotive Co and Henschel. The extra M indicated that the loco was intended for main-line use and it had a larger coal and water capacity for this purpose. These ubiquitous engines saw service on most secondary lines in the country. They were the last class of Garratts in service with the SAR and were being withdrawn from regular service in 1984.
Kit features: One Piece Cast Boiler/Smokebox/Firebox, cast Cab, Cab Roof, Footplate, Backhead, Water Tank, Coal Bunker sides/end, Cylinders and various other parts. Brass and Nickel Silver Etched parts include; pre-assembled Valvegear, Chassis frames and other smaller parts. There is also alot of small fine cast brass fittings. Also comes with Motor/Gearbox, Wheels, Number/Builders Plates and Kadee coupler. Only requires transfers, solder and paint to complete.
