LNER/BR V1/V3 2-6-2t Hand Built Model (PMP13)
The mighty LNER V1/V3 class was a three cylinder large tank engine designed by Sir Nigel Gresley for short, medium distance, stopping, passenger trains. The first 28 V1's built and numbered 2900~2927 were built between September 1930 and December 1931 in Doncaster. The remaining batches numbered 2928~33, 2897~99, 402/ 4/ 714/ 20/ 22~25/ 28/ 40/ 46/ 51/ 54/ 55/ 61/ 65~67/ 72/ 77~8183~91 & 496 entered traffic between December 1934 and February 1939. The last 10 engines built were fitted with up-rated boilers and classified V3's entering service during 1939~1940 and were numbered 390~393/395~399 & 401. The class was allocated to depots in Scottish, North Eastern & Eastern regions. The last of the class was withdrawn from service in November 1964.
