NEW MODEL – NER R Class/ LNER D20 4-4-0

DJH Model Loco are thrilled to announce the launch of their new model - the NER R Class/LNER D20 4-4-0.

Locomotive History

Designed by Wilson Worsdell for the North Eastern Railway (NER), the NER R Class / LNER D20 was a 4-4-0 steam locomotive which was used as an express passenger service in the 1900's. The locomotive was built with many enhancements compared to its predecessors to enhance performance including increased boiler pressure, lengthened firebox (7ft) and a 19in cylinder. 60 locomotives were built in Gateshead.

In 1923, the 60 locomotives built were passed to London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) and 49 were later passed to British Railway (BR) in 1948. The last D20 was retired in 1957 with none in preservation.
