BR Thompson A2/2
These impressive but slightly ungainly-looking engines were a rebuild of Gresley’s class P2 2-8-2s into Pacific form. As a small, non-standard sub-class they were among the first of the LNER’s splendid express stud to be scrapped – the last to go was Earl Marischal, withdrawn in June 1961.
